Government grant helps build creative muscle

For six Mondays in March and April, the centre’s kids worked on Our Views film project, thanks to NSW Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) Youth Opportunities grant for innovative grassroots projects.

With no previous film-production experience, they were taught how to use an iPad to create a mini movie.

Held at the Mount Hutton drop-in centre, the project gave them an opportunity to learn some different social and life skills as well as being mentored in filmmaking and drama coaching.

While flexing their creative muscles and telling stories important to them and their community; the kids also learnt about scripting, producing, directing, acting, editing, sound, lighting and camera work.

Being part of the film project, also created a platform for them, their families and community to learn more about what’s possible for young people.

The film Painting Yourself Out of A Corner is a story of redemption with a message.

It premiered on Friday, July 7 to community and supporters at a red-carpet event  held at Windale Community Hall.
