Honoured to Win a Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Award
We are honoured to be one of the winners at the 2017 Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards.
This accolade recognises our work and especially the vision of our CEO Geraldine Moran to support disadvantaged young people to be the best they can be as well as support community locally and further afield.
The 2017 Awards were open to more than 13,500 businesses, charities and not-for profit organisations in the Lake Macquarie area. We won the Excellence in Not for Profit / Charity Award. We were surprised and thrilled when we were named as we competed against three other worthy finalists.
This award acknowledges our work as a helping hand for children aged 6 to 18 years identified by their schools as being “at risk”; the hard work of our CEO, volunteers, staff, coaches, mentors, board and everyone who has supported an event or donated to support Centre For Hope to empower a young person.
In our work, we support high school and primary students, mainly Indigenous, through our mentoring and coaching programs in Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Hunter and Sydney. This year we anticipate more than 1200 young people will be part of these programs that are supported by ongoing and one-off projects.
“We empower young people to fulfil their potential regardless of race, culture socio-economic setting or education,” CEO Geraldine Moran said.
“We also empower young people to respect themselves to connect to the wider community and create an inspired life.
“At Centre for Hope, we gauge our success through the changes we see in our young people, in their behaviours, abilities to cope with changes and willingness to support each other. These changes are backed up through feedback and support from surveys, schools, referring bodies, government, community and business.
“However, to receive this award is an amazing honour, especially to be acknowledged for our dedication to the Lake Macquarie community and pursuit of excellence.”
This award will join a growing cache of acknowledgements including Geraldine Moran named as 2016 Lake Macquarie Citizen of the Year and 2016 Hunter Water Hero of the Year and Centre for Hope a finalist in 2016 Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards.
