Cultural Exchange - Get to know The Soil

Our One Voice Mob choir are currently fundraising for their cultural exchange trip to South Africa. As part of this exchange program, the children will be exposed to an intensive week-long singing masterclass with famous a capella trio, The Soil.

Formed in 2003, The Soil began from jam session between friends at a high school in Soweto, South Africa. Since then, The Soil have released three albums including Nostalgic Moments in 2014. This album features Grammy award-winning, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and hip-hop artist, Khuli Chana.

The Soil rose to further fame after covering Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ in their signature vocal style as well as performing at Westminster Abbey in front of the Queen in 2015.

For our One Voice Mob, the opportunity to meet and learn from these musical legends is incredible. It is especially significant as both groups have grown up in areas of low socioeconomic opportunity and have similar stories to share.

This experience would also show our choir members that they are valued and worthy in the eyes of the community, cementing their self-worth and confidence.
